Master of Divinity FAQ
Thanks for your interest in Faith Bible Seminary. Below are the most common questions we hear about the M.Div. program in Lafayette, Indiana: what it costs, how the church internship works, and what it asks of your family.
What the M.Div. Costs
What is the cost of the M.Div. program?
The cost of the M.Div. program is designed to be affordable for those pursuing ministry. Students participating in ministry or a church internship are eligible for the lowest tuition rate: $2,000 per year. For other students, standard tuition of $250 per credit hour applies. Current tuition rates and fees are listed on our Tuition & Fees page.
Can I work while completing the M.Div. program?
Students may work while completing the program; however, those seeking the lowest tuition rate must commit to ministry or a church internship, which typically precludes outside employment. Students who choose to work outside of ministry or internship roles are not eligible for the lowest tuition rate, but can still benefit from the program’s flexible scheduling.
What financial support is available?
The seminary does not offer direct financial support. However, students who are actively involved in ministry or a church internship are eligible for the lowest tuition rate, making the program more affordable. Several partially paid, part-time internships are available at Faith Church. More information is available on our Tuition & Fees page.
Your Family in Lafayette
What responsibilities might my wife have if I’m married?
There are no formal requirements for wives. We encourage wives who are not employed to consider volunteering at our community centers. Faith Church interns may also have specific expectations for their wives if they are not employed; the Church Internship page has more details.
What educational options are available for my children?
The Lafayette area provides several excellent educational options for children, including public schools, private Christian schools, and homeschooling networks. Many seminary families choose Faith Christian School for its emphasis on Christ-centered education.
How does the program accommodate major life adjustments, such as marriage or having children?
Our faculty and staff understand that major life events often occur during seminary. Whether you are planning to get married, expecting a child, or navigating another life adjustment, we provide flexibility and pastoral care to support you during these transitions. If needed, you may also adjust your course load or schedule to accommodate these changes.
Is childcare available for younger children?
Yes, there are childcare options available for families with young children. The Lafayette area has several licensed daycare facilities, and some churches in the community offer childcare during events and programs. While childcare is not provided directly by the seminary, we can help connect you with trusted local options.
What to Expect in the Program
What are the academic expectations for the M.Div. program?
The M.Div. program is rigorous, designed to prepare students for ministry through theological study, practical training, and spiritual growth. Students should expect a significant amount of reading, writing, and research, with opportunities for hands-on ministry experience.
When is the next M.Div. cohort?
Faith Bible Seminary admits a new M.Div. cohort once every three years, and the next cohort begins in 2028. Applications for Faith Church internship positions are due September 1, 2027; all other applications are due July 1, 2028. There are no electives, so the cohort takes the 86-credit program together over three years.
Do I have to move to Lafayette?
Yes, unless you already live nearby. M.Div. students must be active members of a local church in the Lafayette area, or willing to relocate. The program combines one to two days per week in class with a church internship three to four days per week, so it is not offered at a distance.
Is the church internship required?
Yes. The church internship represents half of the M.Div. educational experience, and all M.Div. students participate, either at Faith Church, where several partially paid, part-time internships are available, or at a partnering local church. If you are already serving in ministry, you may be able to enroll without an internship; these requests are considered case by case.
